History

The Fiji Prisons Distinguished Service Medal was instituted by the President of Fiji, Ratu Josefa Iloilovatu Uluivuda, by the Honours and Awards Act on March 8, 1995. The Fiji Honours System was established to promote national unity and to celebrate outstanding contributions made in service of the State.

The Medal is awarded in recognition of valuable services or acts of bravery and leadership made to the State.

Clasps are awarded for subsequent awards and recipients are entitled to the post-nominal letters DSA.
