History


The Fiji Republic Medal was instituted by the President of Fiji by the Fiji Republic Decree on October 6, 1988, after the abolishment of the British Honours System. It is awarded to citizens or other foreigners in recognition of meritorious and faithful service provided to the State.

There is a Civil and Military version of the Fiji Republic Medal. The Civil Version is awarded to citizens or others members of the Fijian civil service in recognition of outstanding public service. It features a navy blue, red, white, and green ribbon, and the inscription, “FOR SERVICE TO THE REPUBLIC.”

The Military Division is awarded to members of Fiji’s military, police, prison, fire or forest guard services in recognition of meritorious and faithful public service. It features a blue, red, and green ribbon and the inscription, “FOR SERVICES IN THE ARMY, NAVY, POLICE, PRISONS, DISCIPLINED SERVICES.”
