History

The Meritorious Service Award (Raoirain Rkana te Mwukuri) was established by I. Tabai, the Benetitenti, or President, of Kiribati by the Kiribati National Honours and Awards Act in 1989. The Kiribati Honours System was created to reward and recognise exemplary, meritorious, and distinguished service to Kiribati.

The Silver Medal is awarded to members of Kiribati’s defence force in recognition of exceptional service.

Recipients are entitled to the post-nominal letters RRM.
