History

The New Zealand Police Meritorious Service Medal was established by Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of New Zealand by Royal Warrant in 2013. It was created to recognize exceptional and meritorious service performed by any New Zealand police force employee. The medal may reward innovative and inspirational service, and it may also be awarded posthumously.

Clasps bearing a royal crown in the centre are awarded for further qualifying service.

The Silver Medal depicts the New Zealand police badge on the obverse and has an inscription in both English and Maori. The recipient’s name is engraved on the rim.
