The Order of Samoa was instituted by the Legislative Assembly of Samoa by the Honours and Awards Act on August 25, 1999. The Order of Samoa (Poloaigia Sili a Samoa) is Samoa’s highest meritorious award and is conferred upon Samoan citizens, or foreigners in the form of an Honorary Award, in recognition of national or international paramount contributions made to the people, life, or culture of the State.

Membership is restricted to 2 living members. It may be awarded posthumously.

The award is accompanied with a certificate and a miniature version of the medal and ribbon.
