The National Order of Upper Volta was conferred upon civilians and military personnel in recognition of merit and extraordinary service to the nation of Upper Volta. It was permanently discontinued in 1993 following the creation of the National Order of Burkina Faso. Recipients of the National Order of Upper Volta were named to the corresponding grades of the new Order.
The obverse inscription translates to "National Order," and the reverse inscription translates to "Republic of Upper Volta."
