This medal commemorates the 100th Anniversary of Liberian and Maryland union in 1857.

Medals that have a yellow ribbon with a white stripe down the centre pay tribute to Superintendent F.W. Gibson, Chief of Maryland province in 1957. Medals that have a solid yellow ribbon pay tribute to Chief Hedo Hodo Paramount Chief of Nymowe Chiefdom.
