Morocco. An Order of Medhi, Breast Star, c. 1940
(Wissam al-Mahdawiya). Instituted August 17 1926 by Prince Mulay Hasan bin Mahdi. A silver gilt six point star, each arm a cluster of nine smooth rays, the obverse medallion presents a superimposed blue enamelled six point star with a small crescent moon and star in each light blue section of the arm, the medallion presents a yellow enamel sun with numerous rays on a brown background with a green foreground, surrounded by a dark blue enamelled ring, the reverse presents a single pin suspension with dual stays, measures 54.60mm (w) x 62.50mm (h), weighs 52.2grams, scattered gilt wear, light wear, enamels intact, overall very fine condition.
This Order was instituted by Sultan Mulay al-Mehdi bin Ismail in 1926. It was revised on May 10, 1937 and August 6, 1945 by Vizirial Dahirs. It may also be referred to as "The Order of Guidance."
This Order was conferred in recognition of contributions and improvement to Moroccan-Spanish inter-cultural understanding.
The reverse features Arabic script.
