History

This Order was conferred upon both Nigerian civilians and military personnel in recognition of merit.

A change in ribbon differentiates between the the civilian (no red stripe) and military (red stripe) division.

The obverse features an inscription. There is limited information regarding this item.

The order has four grades:
- Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic
- Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic
- Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic
- Member of the Order of the Federal Republic
