History

This cross is conferred in recognition of valorous acts within the military, or to military personnel who had been wounded. In special cases, this cross may be awarded to civilians for exhibiting merit and valour during military operations.

The ribbon of this medal may be decorated with a bronze star for regiment citation, a silver star for brigade citation, a gold star for division citation, a silver palm for citation to army corps, a gold palm for army citation, or a gold palm alongside silver and bronze stars for three citations.
