History

This medal was conferred upon members of the South African Police for preventing or combating terrorism. It was also awarded for service against the People's Liberation Army of Namibia in South West Africa (1966 to 1989) and operations in Rhodesia (1967 to 1975).

A silver bar is authorized to denote a subsequent award.
