History

This star was conferred upon Officers of the South African Defence Force in recognition of exceptional meritorious service and devotion to duty.

It replaced the previous version of the Southern Cross Medal (1952-1975).

The value of this medal increases with supporting documentation.

The reverse features a decoration number.
