The Medal for Uruguay and Buenos Aires (Medalha do Uruguai e de Buenos Ayres) was instituted by the Empire of Brazil in 1852, to reward the Brazilian troops who participated in the campaign against the Argentine forces in the Tonelero River, River Plate during the Second Cisplatine War.

The Medal was authorized with four grades according with the rank of the recipient. The Gold Medal was suspended from a neck ribbon and awarded to Generals. The Silver Medal was wore on a chest ribbon and conferred upon Officers. The Zinc Medal was awarded on a chest ribbon and granted to NCOs. Finally, the Copper Medal had no suspension and was conferred upon enlisted men.
