History


The Medal for Uruguayana (Medalha da Rendição de Uruguaiana) was instituted by Emperador Dom Pedro II of Brazil on September 20, 1865. It was awarded to Brazilian Officers, men, and civilians, who served in the surrender of Uruguayana during the Triple Alliance War (1865-1869).

Awarded in three classes according with the rank of the recipient, the Gold Medal was awarded to members of the Imperial Family, ministers of state and Generals. The Silver Medal was conferred upon civil officials, government servants and Officers, while the Bronze Medal was awarded to civilians and men.
