Instituted in 1943. Fullsize (in bronze gilt, measuring 33.8 mm in diameter, lightly soiled original ribbon with pinback, accompanied by its 35.5 mm (w) x 12 mm (h) ribbon bar); and Miniature (in bronze gilt, measuring 15.5 mm in diameter, original ribbon with pinback). Both with scattered gilt wear, contact marks, better than very fine.
The Naval War Service Medal was authorized by the Brazilian government in 1943, to reward Brazilian and Allied navy personnel, and members of the Brazilian and Allied merchant marines, who displayed courageous behavior while on duty during the Second World War.
The Medal was authorized with a unique grade. It may be awarded with complimentary silver star clasps on the ribbon, associated with years in service.
