History

The Medal for Angamos (Medalla por el Combate Naval de Angamos) was instituted in 1881 in recognition of the military personnel of the Navy who participated in the confrontation against the Peruvian navy, where the Peruvian battleship "Huástar" was seriously damaged. This event allowed Chile to take control of the seas at the end of the Pacific War (1879-1883).

The Medal was authorized in a single degree.

The Medal was designed by V. Prinz.
