History

The Star for Yungay (Estrella por la Batalla de Yungay) was authorized by Chilean government to reward military personnel who took part of Battel of Yungay in 1839, when Peruvian president Santa Cruz was defeated by Chilean forces under command of General Manuel Bulnes.

The Star was authorized in Gold and Silver. The Gold Star was awarded to Officers and high ranks, while the Silver Star was for enlisted men.
