History

The Liberation Army of Peru Medal (Medalla al Ejercito Liberadora del Peru) was authorized by General San Martin on August 15, 1821. It was awarded to those Officers who, under his command, sailed to Peru to fight against Spanish royalist troops in this country. San Martin declared Peru as an independent nation on July 28, 1821.

This Medal was awarded to Chilean, Argentine, and Peruvian army and navy personnel. It is not clear of the composition of the Medal denoted the rank of the recipient.

There are multiple variants that differ slightly in design and inscription.
