The Star of Baron (Estrella a los Vencedores de Baron) was established to reward military personnel who defeated the troops of Colonel Antonio Viduare, who arrested Chile's dictator Diego Portales days before. Even the Colonel was defeated at the Battle of the Alturas del Baron, Portales was executed the same day.

The Medal was authorized in Gold and Silver. The Gold Medal was conferred upon Officer, while the Silver Medal was awarded to enlisted men.
