History

The Medal for Argentine Allies at the Paraguayan War (Medalla al Ejército Aliado contra el Gobierno de Paraguay) was instituted on August 20, 1889 as part of a protocol signed by the three allied countries, Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay.

It was awarded to Brazilian and Uruguayan military forces who fought alongside of Argentina against Paraguay at the War of the Triple Alliance (1864-1870).

The composition of this Medal denotes the rank to the recipient; the Gold Medal was conferred upon Generals, the Silver Medal was awarded to Officers, and the Bronze Medal was for enlisted men.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "Republic of Argentina to the Allied Army Operating against the Government of Paraguay," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to “To Courage and Constancy, the Nation Gratefully.”
