History


The Medal for the Winners of the Battle of Pasco (Medalla para los Vencedores de la Batalla de Pasco) was authorized by the Argentinian hero General José de San Martín in Peru on August 15, 1821. It was awarded to Argentinian, Chilean, and Peruvian troops who defeated to Spanish royalist forces at the Battle of Pasco on December 6, 1820.

The composition of this Medal denotes the rank of the recipient. The Gold Medal was awarded to Chief General Juan Antonio Álvarez de Arenales, and the Generals of each division. The Silver Medal was awarded to Officers, and the Bronze Medal to enlisted men.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to “To the Winners of Pasco,” and a reverse inscription that translates to “December 6, 1820.”
