History


The Chacabuco Medal (Medalla de Chacabuco) was instituted n Argentina by the government of the United Provinces on April 15, 1817. The Medal was awarded to General José de San Martin, Bernardo O’Higgins and their troops who defeated o royalist troops at the battle of Chacabuco, Aconcagua valley.

The composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipient. The gold Medal was awarded to Chiefs and Generals, the silver Medal was awarded to Officers, and the white metal for enlisted men.

There is also a Pentagonal Sun design of this Medal.
