History

The Rio Colorado Medal (Medalla por la Expedición al Rio Colorado) was authorized by the Argentine dictator Juan Manuel Rosas to reward himself and his troops, who defeated an Indian opposition troops at their first expedition to Colorado River in 1833-1834.

It is not clear if the composition denotes the ranks of the recipient.

One special design was made for those who died in action.

This Medal features an obverse inscription that stands for "La Provincia de Buenos Ayres al Patriotismo y al Valor,” which can be translated to "The Provinces of Buenos Ayres to Patriotism and Courage."
