History


The Medal for the Campaign in Rio Negro and Patagonia (Medalla por la Campaña del Rio Negro y Patagonia) was authorized by the Argentine Congress on October 20, 1881 and it was awarded on May 24, 1882.

It was awarded to Generals, Officers, and enlisted men, who taking part of the expedition to Rio Negro and Patagonia, while dislodging Indians and getting control of region.

The composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipient. The gold Medal was conferred upon Generals, the silver Medal was awarded to Officers, and the Copper medal to enlisted men.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "Campaign of Rio Negro y Patagonia," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to “The Nation to the South Army of the 1881.”
