History

The Medal of Callao (Medalla por Callao) was instituted by the President of Bolivia, General Antonio José Sucre, in recognition of the revolutionary forces who participated at the siege and capitulation of the Spanish troops that remained in the fortress "Real Felipe" in Callao, Bolivia on January 11, 1826. This garrison was the last Spanish troops in Latin America.

It is not clear if the composition of the Medal denote the rank of the recipient.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translate to "Defeated Callao Fortress with Courage never seen before," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Siege of Callao 1826."
