History

The Medal of Viacha (Medalla por Viacha) was authorized by the government of General Manuel Mariano Melgarejo to reward his supporters and the troops under his command, who fought against his opponents at the Battle of Las Letanias, Viacha in 1866.

It is not clear if the composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipients.

There are two different designs of this Medal, there are, a roundish Medal, and a Cross.

Melgarejo authorised two special versions for his supports Anjel R. Rebollo and Dr. José Raimundo Taborga.

This Cross features an obverse inscription that translates to "Bolivia to its Pacifiers," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Viacha January 24, 1866."
