History

The Great Bolivian Order for Education (Gran Orden Boliviana de Educación) was established by the government of Bolivia on October 9, 1951. It is awarded in recognition of Bolivian and foreign institutions, citizens, educators, teachers, researchers and intellectuals, who consistently have contributed to the cultural and educational development of Bolivia. This Order succeeded the Order of Merit for Teachers instituted on September 17, 1937.

The Order is composed of three different branches. Each branch was regulated differently. In MedalBook, the Order is classified into types according with its branches. Type I corresponds to the Great Bolivian Order for Education, Type II includes the National Order of Physical Education, and Type III consists of the National Order of the Khantuta Flower.

In Type II, the National Order of Physical Education consists of three grades: Commander, Officer and Knight.

The Knight is conferred upon physical educators who have completed five whole years of efficient service displaying high level of discipline and responsibility in public or private schools. It is conferred upon athletes who have won either first spot in national competition or second spot in international competition, as well as to students who have got the first spots on the yearly competition between Bolivian military educational institutions.

The Order features an obverse inscription that translates to "Bolivian Physical Education Knight," and a reverse inscription that translates to "To Merit."
