History

The Order of Miguel Larreynaga was instituted by Anastasio Somoza Debayle on September 16, 1968. It was conferred upon Nicaraguans and foreigners in recognition of outstanding service to the Republic in the fields of diplomacy and international relations.

The Order's grades were Grand Collar, Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Knight. The Order was abolished by the Sandinistas in 1980.

This Order is named after Miguel Larreynaga (1772-1847), a figure who played an important role in Central American Independence War against Spanish rule.
