The Order of Captain Jose A. Quiñones (Orden del Capitán Jose A. Quiñones) was instituted by decree on July 8, 1975. It was created to reward Peruvian air force military personnel, both foreigners and nationals, in recognition of meritorious and distinguished actions during the performance of their duties.

The Order's grades are four, these are: Extraordinary Grand Cross, Grand Cross, Grand Officer, and Commander. The Order might be awarded with division, White Distinction for distinguished actions, and Red Distinction for meritorious actions in campaign.

The examples with Red Distinction are very rare.

The Grand Cross consists of a breast star in Gold, together with a sash and the badge, also in Gold.

The inscription might very of punctuation and abbreviations.

Captain Jose A. Quiñones (1914-1941) was a renowned Peruvian pilot, who distinguished himself as an acrobatic pilot, flying upside-down near the ground. He was declared National Hero due to his outstanding participation in the Peru-Ecuador Border War of 1941.
