A 1920's Peruvian Republican Guard Medal - Two-piece construction, silver, maker marked "Pareja", marked "MONEDA LIMA" and "925" (silver) on the reverse, 56.5 mm x 61 mm, original ribbon with pinback, extremely fine. History


The Order of Merit of the Republican Guard (Orden al Mérito de la Guardia Republicana) was instituted on March 3, 1970 to reward the members of the Peruvian Republican Guard for outstanding service to the institution.

The Order's grades were Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Knight.

The Order was disbanded in 1988 when the Republican Guard was merged into the National Police.

The Order's official maker is the National Mint, Lima (Casa Nacional de la Moneda). The usual engraver found in the pieces is Armando Pareja Landeo.
