History


The Order of José Cecilio del Valle was established in Honduras on October 3, 1957. It is conferred upon Hondurans and foreigners in recognition of distinguished service to the nation, achievements in the arts or sciences, or for significant achievements in the promotion of peace and international solidarity.

The Order was modified and regulated on November 14, 1978.

The current grades are Collar, I Class Grand Cross (with golden breast star), II Class Grand Cross (with silvered breast star), Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Knight.

José Cecilio del Valle (1777-1834) was one of the most influential Honduran political leader the years following the Honduras independence. He was mayor of the City of Guatemala in 1821, and he wrote Central America's Declaration of Independence from Spanish rule.
