This Service Medal was introduced on September 6, 2000, to recognize the contribution and efforts of Canadian peacekeepers since 1947. To be eligible, an individual must work a minimum of 30 days on a UN or international peacekeeping mission.
As of 2018, Canada has served more than 53 years of international peacekeeping. Over 125,000 Canadians have participated.
This medal was designed by Bruce Beatty. The obverse features three unarmed figures with a flying dove above them, surrounded by the words PEACEKEEPING and SERVICE DE LA PAIX with two maple leafs separating them. The reverse bears the cypher of Queen Elizabeth and the word CANADA. The ribbon 32mm and consists of a blue central stripe, flanked by a white, red and green stripe on each side.
Since 2012, 74,718 medals have been issued.
