The Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship was created in 1973 to recognize individuals who exemplify the virtues of good citizenship. Any citizen of Ontario that demonstrates generosity, kindness or self-sacrifice to the benefit of their community without expectation of recognition or compensation can be nominated.
The obverse features the Coat of Arms of the Province of Ontario and is inscribed with [FOR GOOD CITIZENSHIP]. The reverse features a trillium, the official floral emblem of the province.
Recipients are presented with the Medal by the Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario and are able to use the post-nominals "OMC." The Medal was granted official status to the Precedence of Canadian Orders, Decorations, and Medals on April 2, 1998.
