Instituted 1926. Of quality French manufacture, consisting of a silver gilt sash badge, featuring a blue enamel disc with internal gilt rays, green enamel laurel surround, obverse centre presenting a gilt portrait of Carlos Manuel Cespedes with blue enamel border which states Carlos Manuel Cespedes 1868 (Year of Cuban Independence), outer gilt wreath with red enamel ties as well as ten silver rays represented by crashing waves, reverse presenting a similarly detailed motif with reverse centre featuring an enameled Cuban Coat-of-Arms, hallmarked on integral ring with boars head denoting French small silver guarantee post 1838, measuring 51 mm (w) x 55 mm (h - inclusive of horizontally pierced ball suspension), with short section of original blue sash, enamel loss, good.
The Order was conferred in recognition of extraordinary merit and service to the Republic of Cuba.
This Order was named after the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes for his efforts in the Cuban War of Independence.
