Cuba, Socialist Republic. An Order of May 17th

(Orden "17 de Mayo"). Six-piece construction, in silvered and gilt bronze with red and blue enamels, plated reverse cartouche, measuring 44.8 mm (w) x 50.8 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, original ribbon, mounted to a five-sided brass suspension with pinback, intact enamels, light contact, accompanied by its 25.5 mm (w) x 14.7 mm (h) ribbon bar with pinback, in its hardshelled case of issue, near extremely fine.

History


The Order on May 17th is a decoration of Cuba, to reward agricultural merit. It is granted by the Council of State, following the proposals made by the National Bureau of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP). The order is named after the Day of the Cuban Peasant, which commemorates the murder of the farmer leader Niceto PĂ©rez, which occurred in 1946.
