History

The Cross for Lipantitlan (Cruz de Lipantitlan) was established by the Mexican government in 1842 to reward the military personnel who fought against a group of Mexican and Texan separatists at Matamoros, Tamaulipas on July 7, 1842.

The Cross features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "Attested Valor in Texas on July 7, 1840."
