History


The Cross for Veracruz (Cruz por Veracruz) was authorized in Mexico by presidential decree on October 29, 1840. It was awarded to Officers who attacked the last Spanish garrison in Veracruz on October of 1822.

The Cross features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "Vigilance and Courage October 27, 1822," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to "He Refused the Enemy in Veracruz October 27, 1822."
