History

The Medal for Tlaxcala (Medalla de Tlaxcala) was established by the state of Tlaxcala in recognition of the military personnel who participated at the Third Battle for Puebla on April 2, 1867, a key victory of the Mexican army during the Second French Intervention (1862-1867).

The Medal was authorized with three classes: I Class Medal, II Class Medal, and, III Class Medal. It is not clear if the composition denotes the rank of the recipient.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "The State of Tlaxcala to its Brave Sons," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to "He Participated to the Glorious Assault of Puebla on April 2, 1867."
