History

The Medal of Zacatecas for Tampico (Medalla de Zacatecas a los Vencedores de Tampico) was authorized by the State of Zacatezas in 1829. It was conferred upon Mexican federal forces under command of General Santa Anna, who laid siege a Spanish invading army, numbering 4000, that was made an attempt to reconquer Mexico City on September 11, 1829.

The composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipient. The Gold Medal was conferred upon Generals and Chiefs, the Silver Medal was awarded to Officers, while the Bronze Medal was awarded to the troops.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "The State of Zacatecas to the Winner in Tampico 1829." The Medal has not reverse inscription.
