The Meeting of Presidents Taft and Diaz Medal (Medalla Conmemorativa de la Reunion Presidencial entre Taft y Diaz) was instituted in commemoration of the historical summit held in both El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, where the Mexican President Porfirio Díaz and the US President William Howard Taft conducted the first meeting between U.S. and Mexican presidents on October 16, 1909 It was the first time that a sitting U.S. president crossed the border.
