The Mexican Military Legion of Honor (Legión de Honor Mexicana) was established in Mexico by presidential decree on May 3, 1951. It is awarded to Mexican military personnel in recognition of the sacrifices in the defense of the country from internal and external enemies. Also, it may be awarded after completing thirty years of military service.
The Cross was awarded to the Mexican military personnel who fought in the Pacific War during the World War II.
In 1836, the first Legion of Honor decoration was founded.
The obverse inscription translates to "Legion of Honor," and the reverse inscription translates to "Presidential Decree of 3th May, 1951."
Cuauhtémoc was an early 16th Century Aztec ruler who fought heroically and inspirationally against the Spanish conquistadors and was tortured and then unjustly executed by Cortés.
