History


The Naval Cross for Campeche (Cruz Naval de Campeche) was instituted by decree on August 4, 1843. It was awarded to Mexican Generals and Officers who participated in the naval engagement against a Texan warships force in Campeche on May 16, 1843.

The Cross features an obverse inscription that translates to "He Defeated to the Texan Squadron with Courage," and a reverse inscription that translates to "In Campeche on May 16, 1843."
