History

The Naval Heroic Action Medal (Medalla por Acción Heroica Naval) was instituted in Mexico by Ordinance of the Army and Navy on June 15, 1897. It was created to reward the naval personnel who displayed heroic actions in the performance of their duties.

The Medal consisted of four grades: I Class, II Class, I Class Medal, and II Class Medal. The I and II Class were awarded to Officers and high ranks, while the I and II Class Medals were awarded to enlisted men and N.C.O.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "Award for Heroic Action."
