History

The Tres Castillos Campaign Medal (Medalla de los Tres Castillos) was authorized by the state of Chihuahua in recognition of the four hundred men under command of Governor Luis Terrazas who hunted and killed an Apache Indians on October 14-15, 1880.

The Medal consisted of two classes. Gold Medal and Silver Medal. However, it is not clear if the composition denotes the rank of the recipient.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "The State of Chihuahua Awards the Courage of its Sons," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to "Campaign against Savages Tres Castillos on October 14 and 15, 1880."
