History

The First World War Air Service Pilot Wings were introduced on August 15, 1917. The Pilot Wings may have been worn by aviation Officers and juniors and reserve military aviators.

There are multiple versions of the Pilot Wings which widely vary by design and composition as there were limited regulations for the production, manufacture and allocation of the First World War Pilot Wings.

There may be additional versions of the Pilot Wings not featured here.

The First World War Air Force Pilot Badge may have been issued in multiple grades, but more research is needed.
