History

The Nicaraguan Campaign Medal (1912), also commonly referred to as the "First Nicaraguan Campaign Medal", was authorized by President Woodrow Wilson by Presidental Order on September 22, 1913. The Bronze Medal was awarded to Officers and enlisted men of the United States Navy and Marine Corps in recognition of service ashore in Nicaragua or onboard 1 of 8 specific vessels in Nicaraguan waters during the first United States Occupation of Nicaragua between July 29 and November 14, 1912. Approximately 1,400 Medals were awarded to Navy personnel and 1,000 Medals were awarded to members of the Marine Corps.

There are 2 versions of the Medal which vary by the reverse inscription of the name of the service.

The Medal is stamped on the rim with a serial number. A variety of different stamping styles may have been used.
