History

The Army Good Conduct Medal was established by Executive Order on June 20, 1941. The Bronze Medal is awarded to enlisted personnel of the United States military in recognition of exemplary behaviour, efficiency, and fidelity over a qualifying period of service. The Medal may be awarded for 3 years of completed service since August 27, 1940, or for 1 year of service during war-time. Termination of service of less than a year due to a physical disability incurred while in the line of duty is also eligible for the award. Posthumous awards may be made to individuals killed in action or who perished as a result of wounds inflicted in action prior to the completion of 1 year of active Federal military service.

Subsequent awards of the Medal may be denoted by bronze, silver, or gold knotted clasps worn on the ribbon.

It is uncertain if the Medal was officially engraved with the recipient's details on the reverse.
