History

The Department of Commerce Bronze Medal was established by the United States Department of Commerce in 1949. The Bronze Medal is awarded annually by the Secretary of Commerce to Commerce Department personnel, groups, or organizations for outstanding or significant service which has contributed to the efficiency and effectiveness of the operating unit of the Department of Commerce. Qualifying service may include qualitative and quantitative performances in leadership, personal and professional development, scientific achievement, organization development, customer service, administrative support, or acts of heroism.

Group and organization recipients of the Medal are entitled to wear a silver “O” device on the ribbon. A gold star is also authorized for wear on the ribbon to denote additional awards of the medal.
