The FBI Shield of Bravery was established by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1989 to recognize FBI employees and other American and foreign law enforcement personnel working with the FBI for exceptional acts. The Decoration is awarded in recognition of acts of bravery and courage performed during the line of duty or within the scope of FBI employment. Significant service provided to a task force or undercover operations, in grave situations, or in crisis confrontations associated with major FBI cases may also qualify for the award.
