History

The Crisis Response Service Award was created by the Department of Health and Human Services in 1992. The Medal was awarded to Public Health Service officers in recognition of direct, or hands-on, service in intervention in a crisis situation outside of regular duties. The event, activity, or site, must be declared eligible by the Surgeon General. Since 2000, 7 days or more of direct participation in the formal crisis response effort must be provided to qualify for the award.
